Traditional charcoal production relies on a combination of rudimentary technology, involving virtually zero capital investment, and basic operator skills 3. The institutional and human capacities for the production and use of sustainable charcoal are very weak or nonexistent 4. Need to implement the monitoring and evaluation plan for the project. 1. Integrate COVID awareness and information into ongoing outreach activities at no extra cost to project. 1) Field visits to the comunities by the project coordination team based in Luanda were not posible due to covid 19 pandemic travel restrictions. However, the implemented partners placed their project officers ate the community level during the pandemic to provide better support to the communities. 2) It was not posible to do the South-south exchange with zambia, However in the firts quarter of 2020 project staff were to attend and participate in a workshop in Lusaka related to sustainable charcoal 3) Activities were implemented by ADPP and Don Bosco related to the production and promotion of eficient cooking stoves deigned by the University of Cordova with funds from the project. 4-5) The TOR for the white book and the charcoal strategy were prepared with IDF and DNAAC, however their publication was not yet done due to goverment restructuration process (3 diferent ministers of environment in the year) and not clear delegation of authority to aprove new project activities and make payments. 6) Integrated Covid awareness and information was done by the implementing partners (ADPP, COSPE, Don Bosco, UJES) during the implementation of activities at no extra cost. 5) 1. Procurement process ongoing, ToRs approved by the ministry (MCTA) and the request for tenders have been advertised twice. However, there has been a too low number of tenders and consultants for implementation are not found yet. 2. Information and awareness of rules and precautions have been integrated into outgoing outreach activities in communities and at the schools with training activities. 3. The project have supported the government with the development of their Nationally determined contributions (NDCs) and a draft have been submitted. 4. The partnerships with INAPEM and INAFOP have been strengthened over the year and the detailed for the training activities have been outlined for implementation starting in the beginning of 2022. 5. The project partners have actively been working in over 20 communities in Cuanza Sul and Huambo and at several educational centers with awareness raising on sustainable options of the charcoal sector both in rural and urban areas. The activities have been reaching a wide range of people, from children to the traditional leaders of the communities. The knowledge level is higher and the people that have been trained now understand better the benefits and necessity of keeping the charcoal production methods sustainable and how this effects them on a personal level. 1. Acquisition and pre-placement of equipment for the SPCB CCO´s in the 3 target provinces and delivered on the trainings in Geographical Information Systems (GIS) in all three provinces, this was done with national resources in partnership with local academia, namely Tundavala Institute (based in Huila), under this activity a GIS Manual was developed, printed and distributed (see Annex 32). Overall, 63 technical staff from Civil Protection, Environment, INAMET and GABHIC were trained in the three target provinces (see Attachments 32 A, B, C and D), allowing improved risk analysis and elaboration of provincial risk maps in all target provinces, representing good progress in indicator 1 hence the indicator target is expected to be fully achieved before the initial estimate, once the equipment is installed and fully operational in the 3 provinces. 2. 3. in Cunene following the creation and training of 12 Community DRR groups in the most vulnerable areas of the province in coordination with Cuvelai Project. Social protection system gained more 22.321 new beneficiaries, almost 39.000 informal workers were trained on financial education and 39.243 micro- credits were granted. 2.The Pilot phase started in July with a target of 19 Digital Businesses Advisors in Benguela, Bie, Huambo, Huila and Luanda provinces reaching a total number of 468 micro and small businesses. Furthermore, we achieved to involve two important digital money private partners, Unitel Money and Banco Atlantico, who accompanied the missions and continued to participate in the advising sessions to provide key information about digital money and solving all questions that the entrepreneurs had. 3. The project will focus on planning smart development in the headwaters and leverage on innovative financing models and instruments (such as the PES / CORB Fund) to build resilient livelihoods to local communities while protecting and restoring the ecological integrity of headwaters ecosystem. Angola recognizes the significance of the central plateau headwaters at national and regional levels.
