Addressing the barriers to significantly increase grid/isolated-grid-connected mini/small hydropower capacity and to sustainably manage the watershed GHG emissions in the electricity generation sector has increased from 79,080 tons in 1998 to 101,480 tons in 2005. This increase is getting bigger due to a sustained increase in diesel fuel use for electricity generation. The present contribution of hydropower in the electricity generation mix of the country was a mere 8 % in 2013. No investment taking place in the grid/non-grid-connected mini hydropower sector. No IWMPs are yet developed in the country. No lands restoration techniques implemented in STP. A loss of approx. 1,515 tCO2 every year in the 6,000 ha of forest in the project sites. The target (420) set for year 2020, however is underestimated. The burden of malaria in the country has since changed as reflected by the change of targets in the strategic plan (revised in May 2020 based – projection revised based on actual cases being experienced). The new target was set at 1,716, translating the 1944 cases to 113% instead of 463% (i.e. against the 420 target)). According to a report presented by the malaria program in February 2021 for the year 2020, the country experienced outbreaks in some districts and nationally there was an epidemic situation between week 27 and 51, attributed to effects of the COVID-19 pandemic weakening the activities to fight malaria. Emergency response actions were taken targeting the endemic districts. Active case finding may also have been limited due to the COVID-19. Awareness campaign activities were particularly limited due to the COVID-19 situation. The program plans to undertake several actions including enhancing collaborative efforts by all stakeholders, strengthen the capacity to prepare and respond to malaria epidemics through risk analysis, and boosting awareness raising through mass media (e.g. through radio and telecommunication entities). - For the % of existing ITNs used the previous night, the baseline value of 70% in 2014 was based on the MICS, and another MICS was expected to be conducted in 2019 but was actually conducted 2018. The coverage (74.6%) falls below the target of 85% which was however set for year 2019. According to another household survey on LLIN use conducted by the national malaria program in 2020 (Estudo de avaliacao quantitativa dos mosquiteiros impregnados de longa duracao), major reasons for not having used the net the previous night included not having one (about 20% reported that they didn’t have, mostly due to either never receiving one or it was now too old or damaged), and for those who have it, major reason for not using was that it was too hot. Recommendations from the study was to strengthen awareness campaigns to further improve attitudes towards use of mosquitoes nets. For the current period, the team cited COVID-19 as a challenge in conducting community engagement activities. As a result, they plan to enhance awareness through enhancing use of other communication strategies such as mass media. -For TB mortality rate per 100,000 population (5.7) is about twice the target for the year (2019). The absolute number of deaths was 18 in total for the whole country but with 6 being co-infected, based on the TB program database (HMIS). The WHO Annual TB Report for 2020 did not (does not yet) have the estimates for lower burden countries including Sao Tome and Principe. However, the WHO Annual Report for 2019 (which reports on the 2018 period) estimated it at 21 (8.3–40). -There was no RR or MDR case in 2017 hence no treatment success outcomes for this reporting period. -Regarding the % of adults & children with HIV, known to be on treatment 12 months after initiation of ARVs, out of the 125 patients registered in 2019, 107 were under treatment 12 months after starting treatment. Hence this was an improvement compared to 68% for the previous period, and just managing to reach the target (85%). The achievement was attributed to the peer support program in which PLHIV conduct follow-up and provide support to their peers who would be at risk of loss to follow-up (LTFU). The change of treatment regimen to one pill in 2017 was also noted a potential contributing factor. -For DHIS2 for the year 2020 TB and HIV data were entered into the database, except for a few months for some posts. Regarding data entry and handling of the DHIS2 system, the head nurses are interacting well with the DHIS2 system, with only the delay in entering data into the system from the years prior to 2019. However, the major issues are related to the needs of ensuring funds to do the maintenance of the system. 3-To conclude the IBBS study to allow CNE to define the HIV indicator baseline data. IBBS study concluded. The prevention program takes place quarterly according to the National Institute for the promotion of gender. In 2020, 98 different sex workers attended each session, totaling 392 sex workers. The estimated number of sex workers of 425, based on the IBBS, is much higher than the estimate from the previous period (89) reaching 92.2% coverage. Package constitutes counselling for behavior change provided through psychologists, provision of consumables (condoms and lubricants), and voluntary HIV testing. Clients were actively reached at least once, but the client can reach back for further assistance at anytime.
